4ºC Entre Toi et Moi

BAP! Île-de-France

2025

4ºC Entre Toi et Moi took place at the ENSA Versailles in the summer of 2025. It was curated by Sana Frini and Philippe Rahm, who invited more than a dozen universities, along with 58 contemporary architectural firms, to explore architectural solutions envisioning Paris in the year 2100 under conditions of extreme heat and intense seasonal rainfall. Our contribution, titled Persiana Mediterránea, investigates a vernacular architectural element widely found across the Mediterranean Sea. This operable, lightweight wooden shutter protects windows from direct sunlight while enabling cross-ventilation, epitomizing a design response tailored to a region’s climate. Today, several contemporary Spanish architects are revisiting the Persiana as a sustainable alternative to energy-intensive mechanical cooling, aiming to reduce heat gain. The project explores the Persiana at three scales through corresponding models: the window (1:5), the façade (1:25), and the plaza (1:100). In doing so, it traces the element’s origins, evolution, and potential futures, such as the Mediterranean pavilion—extending its application from domestic spaces to the public realm.
