Ames Social Hub

Santiago, ES

2020

Otium, an ancient Latin term, refers to the physical setting where ancient Roman society engaged in leisure activities. Typically situated amidst natural surroundings, Otium served as a catalyst for nurturing their intellectual curiosity and fostering serenity, meditation, and inner peace. Drawing inspiration from these fundamental principles, our proposal entails a U-shaped building meticulously designed around a green open space that seamlessly integrates the urban environment with the surrounding landscape. The northern section of the building is dedicated to accommodating individual needs and daily activities, while the southern section is conceived as a dynamic and adaptable space. The interconnection between both areas is facilitated by a fluid and versatile zone that addresses both users' circulations and their interaction with the exterior environment. Acknowledging the impact of the construction sector on the surrounding ecosystem, this project embraces a social-ecological commitment to the place in which it is situated. The project seeks to utilize local and bio-based resources, establishing a symbiotic relationship with the region's landscapes and cultural heritage.
