AD Stand
ARCO Madrid, ES

2026

LUMBRE is the name of the stand for AD magazine at ARCO 2026 and of the storefront installation for the Massimo Dutti flagship store on Serrano Street in Madrid. The project transforms timber burned during last summer’s wildfires in the communal lands of Laza (Ourense) into a space for reflection and critical engagement. Emerging in response to an ecological disaster, the installation is composed of charred logs and ultra-thin sheets of veneer obtained by “peeling” their interiors. These elements form walls and lamps that emit a warm, diffuse glow, evoking the presence of a hearth or open flame. Within this atmosphere, the architecture enters into dialogue with artworks that explore wood and the transformative role of fire through the practices of artists Jacobo Castellanos and Sandra Mar. Selected by AD together with Massimo Dutti, the stand reframes a recent natural catastrophe as an architectural narrative that acknowledges the scars of the territory and the fragility of its material. In doing so, it approaches fire not only as an agent of destruction but also of creation.
