Paisaxes

2025

Obradoiro 35: Paisaxes is the latest issue of the annual journal published by the Galician Institute of Architects. After twelve years of silence, the magazine returns with a renewed identity to reflect on the new urban, ecological, and social contexts in which Galician architects will operate in the coming decades. This issue positions landscape design and territorial planning as central disciplines within architectural practice. The landscapes that surround us are designed spaces—structured by human activity. Just as architects shape buildings and cities, we also play a fundamental role in defining these environments. Recognizing this responsibility underscores the need to care for, organize, and develop the shared territory of Galicia at a moment when its fragility is more evident than ever—exposed by the region’s largest wildfires in history, the visible transformations driven by climate change, and the persistence of extractive practices. Obradoiro 35 examines interventions in communal forests, coastal areas, and bodies of water, as well as in agricultural, forestry, and energy-production landscapes. It emphasizes the development of urban green infrastructures that respond to climate impacts and the role of landscape design in managing flooding, fire, and biodiversity loss. In doing so, the issue celebrates the quality and diversity of contemporary landscape projects in Galicia, affirming this field as a crucial area of action for the generations ahead.
